3. The tradition of baby showers really developed in the Victorian Era, becoming close to what we know today as a baby shower. Women were “showered” with gifts. However, the words “pregnancy” and “pregnant” were never used, as it was considered taboo. There were even certain games played to try and guess if the baby would be a boy or girl, not unlike the games played at today’s baby showers.
