- In Ancient Greece and Egypt, mothers were actually isolated immediately after giving birth and then later welcomed back into society with gifts!
- During the Middle Ages, trays of food were brought to the mother-to-be for good luck during labor and the weeks after.
- The tradition of baby showers really developed in the Victorian Era, becoming close to what we know today as a baby shower. Women were “showered” with gifts. However, the words “pregnancy” and “pregnant” were never used, as it was considered taboo. There were even certain games played to try and guess if the baby would be a boy or girl, not unlike the games played at today’s baby showers.

One occasion that can be a little bit tricky to shop for is a baby shower. It is fun and cute to buy little outfits and shoes, but babies grow out of them so fast they hardly get a chance to wear all of the little onesies! That is why we offer name frames and baby-themed photo frames – so families can remember the first months with their cute little bundles of love. While we offer perfect, personalized gifts for the occasion of a baby shower, we had to wonder where the tradition actually comes from. We decided to do a bit of research and here is how the baby shower tradition developed!
