photography trivia of the day

At GiftWorksPlus, we stay up to date on all of the popular, and not-so-popular, holidays throughout the year. Of course, we love the major celebrations that come around during this festive season, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah, and New Year’s, but the fun times with friends and family don’t stop there.

In fact, January 4th is National Trivia Day! It’s a great time to test your knowledge of popular culture, history, and your favorite hobby…photography!

Check out these fun photography facts below and test your friends’ knowledge!

  1. It is estimated that every two minutes, the world snaps more photos than were taken throughout the entire 1800s.
  2. The first funny cat photo was actually taken back in the 1800s. A photographer named Harry Pointer actually became famous for taking photos of cats.
  3. In old photographs, people never smiled as they had to sit still for hours while the photo was being taken.
  4. The first paper used for printing photographs was made of asphalt.
  5. Everyone has a good side, and it’s typically the left side. It turns out the left side of our faces show more emotion than our right.
  6. An average of 300 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every single day.
  7. Around 80 million photos are shared on Instagram every day.
  8. The most used filter on Instagram in the last year was Clarendon.
  9. The camera that was used to take photos on the moon was too heavy to bring back down in the spacecraft, so the astronauts just left it there!

Nowadays, we don’t have to worry about taking heavy cameras home from the moon…for a couple of reasons. But the great thing about having cameras built into our phones is that we can snap great photos whenever inspiration strikes. Of course, being able to print these photos and display them around the home or office is always an added bonus.

Stop by our GiftWorksPlus website today to pick up a personalized photo frame, we even have multi-photo frames if you’d like to make a photo collage.
