1. Figure skating and ice hockey were originally a part of the Summer Olympic Games.
2. Animals used to partake in the Winter Games! Dog sledding as well as certain equestrian events used to have a place in the Winter Olympics.
3. Not surprisingly, Norway has more gold medals for the Winter Games than any other country.
4. This will be the first year that South Korea has hosted the Winter Olympics. They hosted the Summer Games thirty years ago in 1988.
5. The cost of this year’s winter games is around 10 billion dollars, which sounds like quite a lot, but is actually only 1/5^th of the cost for the Sochi Winter Olympics.
6. There will be a total of 13 different venues for the different events, located in both the cities of Pyeongchang and Gangneung.

While a trip to Gangneung may not be in the cards this year, you can still enjoy the games live as they are happening! This is the first year all the games will be broadcast live in all 50 states.
