One holiday that always seems to slip through the cracks is Earth Day. Monday, April 22
nd, will mark the 49
th annual World Earth Day celebration. Though it’s great to honor a day dedicated solely to focusing on lowering our carbon footprint and being more environmentally responsible, many forget that the entire month of April is actually “Earth Month!”
In the spirit of the long-standing tradition of celebrating our planet by taking care of it, we thought in this week’s blog post, we’d share a few simple ways we can all do our part to save the earth this month, next month, and beyond!
Earth Day-Inspired Ideas
-
Clean Up Your Community: Many communities will host volunteer clean-up projects, but an even easier way to get in your work out and clean up the community is by ‘plogging.’ Plogging is a trend that came from Sweden and essentially means picking up trash while jogging. Grab your running shoes, some gloves, and a garbage bag and head out on your usual run but keep an eye out for litter along the path or trail.
-
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Everyone is familiar with the phrase but putting it into practice is much easier than many realize. Purchasing recycled products, paying your bills online, using compact fluorescent lightbulbs, and biking or walking instead of driving are all small changes that can add up to make one big difference.
-
Buy Reusable Bags: In keeping with the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” lifestyle, a reusable shopping bag will save on plastic and paper bags. Another tip that will help you save money, as well as the environment, is reusable trash bags. These can be purchased in stores and online and are available in a variety of sizes.
-
Go Vegetarian for One Day a Week: Thousands of gallons of water go into producing just one pound of beef. By going meatless just one day a week, you could make a big difference in conserving water.
Make this Earth Month your chance to start living eco-friendlier. We at GiftWorksPlus would even challenge you to take it one step further and share these ideas with your friends and family to make your positive impact on the environment even greater!
