As we mentioned in a previous post, fall's changing leaves create a stunning photo backdrop! We already shared some of our favorite hiking locations for beautiful fall photography, but what happens once you get to the spot? How do you take the perfect picture?
Taking beautiful pictures may not be as easy as the pros make it look, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pull it off with a few tips! Here are some fall photography tips for taking photos of family, friends, or just the scenery!
Best Photography Tips
-
Try Out Different Locations. Though there are so many great spots to see the fall leaves, depending on the shot you’re trying to get, some are far better than others! For example, if you’re taking a family photo, you wouldn’t want the scenery to overwhelm the shot. Stay away from waterfalls, rock formations, or anything too distracting in this case.
-
Explore Angles. Looking to capture the color leaves and trees? Get creative in your perspective. You can get close to the leaves while they’re still on the tree and shoot from a low angle to catch the blue of the sky above them. Another option is to get on ground level and have a friend drop leaves from above to create an active shot.
-
Don’t be Afraid to Stage. Candid shots are fun, but it can be difficult to pull off for family pictures. After all, you want everyone in the photo, faces visible, eyes open, and hopefully with a nice expression on their face. Try a bunch of different poses! Have everyone sitting down in the leaves, jumping up and throwing leaves in the air, or laying down in a pile of colorful leaves and taking the photo from a bird’s eye view. Try a bunch of different poses and remember to take plenty of shots to make sure you get one where everyone looks fabulous!
