As our stay-at-home order continues, many Americans can't help but feel a bit stir crazy these day. If you're experiencing the same eagerness to get out and have fun then you know it can be hard to remain focused and get work done.
This is true for kids, as well, who are tasked with studying at home! Between the distraction of phones, computers, social media, and even their siblings, it becomes almost impossible to focus on each task at hand. That's why for this week, we thought it was essential to share a few of our favorite tips on how to stay focused and productive when you're working or studying from home!
How To Keep You & Your Kids Focused During Quarantine
-
Find Your Own Personal Work or Study Space: If your kids are trying to get work done while in bed or on the couch, which is usually the same place they watch Netflix or browse the internet, it's likely they'll be opting for those other activities instead of sticking to the day's priorities (i.e. classwork and studying for finals). Find you and your kids a place to turn into a home office. It can be at the kitchen table, on your back porch or deck area, a guest bedroom, etc. Anywhere that is quiet and free from distractions is ideal.
-
Make Your Work Space Accessible: This means finding good lighting, getting set with all your pens and pencils, and keeping the space clean! A messy work area isn't ideal for productivity. So, make sure as you take a few minutes to tidy up this space.
-
Remove All Electronic Distractions: Okay, so this may be easier said than done. For kids who are taking classes online, they need their computers. However, keep phones and tablets put away in a separate room. If you require your phone and computer for your job, be sure to close out of any social media apps or games that you may open up without even thinking. Mute notifications for the duration you'll be at work and be aware of which apps tend to take up your attention, so you can be more mindful to keep them closed during work periods.
-
Schedule In Some Breaks: Just like in work and school, you need a brief period to regroup and recharge your mind. Make sure to schedule your whole day out, giving a specific amounts of time to each task, but most importantly, plan for short breaks throughout the day for you to recharge. This can be time to take a short walk, sit outside, call a friend, or play on your phone. Just get your mind off school or work for a few minutes!
