Now that we’re getting towards the end of the school year, many high school (and college) seniors are coming to the realization that they’re about to graduate. For some, this is an exciting time that presents new opportunities. For others, it means the end of a long chapter in their lives. Either way, many will experience what's popularly referred to as “senioritis” or graduation blues, which can manifest itself in different ways. Sometimes, seniors stop caring so much about their current classes and end up skipping or not completing homework assignments. Others find themselves getting emotional or anxious about leaving their hometown and separating from their friends and family for the first time. However you’re experiencing senioritis, we have a few tips that may help!

4 Tips on How to Stop Senioritis in Its Tracks

  1. Take a break: Enjoy a break from studies and try to free yourself from using social media or your smartphone for an afternoon! Grab a coffee or head to a movie with some friends to clear your mind and catch a breather from finals and studying.
  2. Take a walk: Head out on a walk or hike with your friends or go solo! Getting some fresh air and exercise will help burn off that excess energy and make it easier to refocus your mind.
  3. Take a trip: Plan a road trip with a few friends. Maybe there’s a show you’d like to see a few cities away or a cool park you’d like to visit for a camping trip. Regardless, having something fun to look forward to—especially after the stress of graduation and before going to college or starting a job—will make the process a little less jarring.
  4. Take care of yourself: Finishing school, whether it’s high school or college, is a huge accomplishment and that final stretch can seem endless and, at times, daunting. Keep track of your stress levels and remember to be proud of your accomplishments.
Don’t forget to document all your amazing times with friends and family as you celebrate graduation! You’ll no doubt be sharing plenty of photos on social media, so try printing out some of your favorite pics and framing them to give as a unique gift.
