November 11 is Veterans Day, a special holiday set aside to celebrate and recognize the service U.S. veterans gave for their country. Although many of us are familiar with Veterans Day and most likely know someone who served in the military, some may not understand the significance of this important day. Originally known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day was set as a legal U.S. holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. Twenty years later, legislation was passed to recognize Armistice Day and to honor WWI veterans. It wasn’t until 1954, after both World War II and the Korean War, that Congress officially changed the name to Veterans Day to show recognition and appreciation for veterans of all wars. The holiday’s date was briefly moved to the fourth Monday of October; but after a few years of confusion over the moved date, was changed back to November 11th in 1975 by President Gerald Ford — and has been observed on this day ever since. Though similar in recognizing those that have been in the military, Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday in May, is specifically set aside to honor and remember service members who died during their service or as a result of injuries incurred during battle. Though deceased veterans are also remembered on Veterans Day, it is primarily a day to thank living veterans who served in times of both war and peace. So this Veterans Day, take the time to stay thank you to a veteran in your life. GiftWorksPlus is proud to offer a line of picture frames honoring veterans. Choose from a variety of engraved picture frames or multiple photo frames. These wooden picture frames would make a thoughtful and touching gift for a veteran. Whether it’s a grandparent or family member, a teacher, a coach, or a friend, a personalized gift from GiftWorksPlus is a wonderful way to say thank you for their service to our country.
