It seems that spring has finally arrived for us Midwesterners—for a little while at least—and for many kids, this means spring break is just around the corner! In a previous blog post, we discussed some great Wisconsin staycation locations to try! This week, we thought we’d extend our list throughout the Midwest area! So, for those looking to travel this year but are not willing to break the bank for a faraway voyage, here's a little help.

Best Midwest Travel Destinations for Spring Break

  1. Holland, Michigan: Holland, Michigan is home to the Tulip Time festival in early May, where tulips bloom and people dance in the streets! The city sits on the shore of Lake Macatawa and is also home to the Big Red Lighthouse, Nelis’ Dutch Village, and the Windmill Island Gardens.
  2. New Harmony, Indiana: This historic city offers hiking and bike trails, as well as some stunning architecture. It has two walking labyrinths both known for their striking beauty and peaceful, harmonious atmosphere. One was even modeled after a 12th-century labyrinth that was built just outside of Paris.
  3. Port Washington, Wisconsin: Spring is the perfect time to visit Port Washington. The Lion’s Den Gorge and Nature Preserve will offer opportunities to get outside and do some hiking. Plus, the Port Washington lighthouse on Lake Michigan will give you and your family a beautiful photo backdrop, and if the weather is nice enough, there is even a water park!
  4. Branson, Missouri: This city has so much to offer all spring breakers. With live music, amusement parks, a wax museum, as well as boating, ziplining, and so much more, it is impossible to not have an amazing time in Branson!
  5. Minneapolis, Minnesota: Minneapolis is another great destination that offers something exciting for the entire family. The Guthrie Theater has productions that are great for all ages. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden will give you a chance to snap some great photos, and it is conveniently located right next to the Walker Art Center. Of course, you will also no doubt want to stop by the Mall of America to do a little shopping and check out the rides at Nickelodeon Universe!
