Fun Facts About GiftWorksPlus’ Home State!

GiftWorksPlus is known for making picture frames in a variety of styles and themes. In addition to create-your-own, totally custom frames, we offer themed photo frames such as family frames, sports frames, travel frames, name frames, pet frames, school frames, wedding frames, and much more! While we offer photo frames for everyone regardless of where they call home, we take some special pride in our home state of Wisconsin! So much so that we offer frames with designs ranging from the Great Lakes of Wisconsin to colleges in Wisconsin. Given that we take a lot of pride in our home state, we thought it would be fun this week to share our favorite fun facts about America’s Dairyland.

1. Wisconsin has over 15,000 lakes! While Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 lakes, Wisconsin has a total of 16,692 lakes.
2. Wisconsin is home to Les Paul! The guitarist known for playing everything from jazz to country and making the solid-body electric guitar popular was also a Wisconsin native. He was nicknamed “The Wizard of Waukesha,” the same city where GiftWorksPlus is located.
3. A Wisconsin native also made cinematic history! While we love to brag about our own Les Paul, we cannot forget the great Orson Welles who was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Welles was an actor, director, writer, and producer, known for producing, co-writing, directing and starring in a little film called Citizen Kane.
4. Wisconsin exports so much more than dairy! Of course, America’s Dairyland is known for milk and cheese, but Wisconsin also leads the nation in exporting more cranberries, whey, sweet corn, and ginseng root than any other state.
5. Wisconsin is home to the ice cream sundae! The first ever ice cream sundae was created in Two Rivers, Wisconsin way back in 1881.
6. The word “cheesehead” wasn’t born in Wisconsin. While Green Bay packer fans identify themselves as “cheeseheads,” the term actually came from German soldiers who used it to insult the Dutch in WWII. The first cheesehead hat was actually a couch cushion painted yellow!
