The Corvette: A Legendary American Car
GiftWorksPlus |
Even if you’re not an avid car collector or classic car fan, there’s a good chance that you’re familiar with the Chevrolet Corvette. Over the years, this car has cemented its status as one of the greatest American sports cars of all time. To celebrate the 60-plus years the Corvette has been around, here are some fun facts about this classic car.
Named after a type of warship, the Chevrolet Corvette made its first appearance in 1953 as a concept show car, featuring an automatic transmission and its signature fiberglass body. Throughout the fifties and early sixties, the Corvette offered different colors and subtle modifications to its look.
By 1963, the second generation Corvette introduced the Sting Ray model, which impacted the body styling of the Corvette through 1967 and later in the fourth generation, as well. Originally built and assembled in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette is currently manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Throughout the years, the Corvette has changed its look and style while growing into an iconic American car that has left its mark on our culture. Prince’s first big hit was “Little Red Corvette,” written after the singer fell asleep in his friend’s Corvette after an all-night recording session. One of the most expensive and rare cars in the world is a red 1967 Chevy Corvette L88. Of the only 20 L88s produced that year, only one was red. It last sold for $3.85 million in 2014.
