It's true: 2020 has been a strange year for everyone, but it's been hard on those high school seniors who were set to graduate this year. Senior year is, without a doubt, one of the most fun years of grade school and missing out of activities like prom and graduation is a pretty anticlimactic way to say goodbye to friends and teachers and start a new journey. This week, we wanted to share a few ways to help show a little love and support to your high school seniors, so they get the memories they deserve!
  1. Have a "Social Distancing" Grad Party! Graduation parties are the best! For seniors who are heading off to college, it's the perfect time to get together with friends and family, eat cake, and of course, get a little extra money before they move out on their own. Instead of a grad party, send out graduation announcements and plan a time to call or have a Zoom party with friends and family to celebrate their awesome achievement!
  2. Go All Out with the Food! A lack of grad party doesn't have to mean no celebration at all. If your child has recently graduated from high school, now's the perfect time to take a day to surprise them with all their favorite foods. If they have a favorite restaurant, pick up take out! If they have a favorite recipe, now is the time to start baking! Make those famous chocolate chip cookies and have a small celebration among family.
  3. Make Sure They Stay Connected to Friends: This may be tricky for parents, but right now, it can be so easy for kids to feel isolated and lonely. Even more so for graduates who should be enjoying their last days of high school- and all the parties and events that come with it. Check in on them once in a while to ensure they're still texting, calling, or having video chats with their friends. Even when they watch a show on Netflix, encourage them to watch while on video chat, so they are staying connected!
  4. Get Creative with Your Gifts: All graduates want (and need) a little extra money, but a creative gift can really mean a lot to someone who may be missing out this year. A great gift for all graduates is a photo frame or album of all their years in school and time spent with their friends, which can date back to 1st grade! Sometimes, a sentimental gift can mean more than a check.
