Whether you’re planning a vacation, taking a trip to the cabin, or just enjoying the warmer weather, there’s always exciting things to do during the summer months. With the Fourth of July (everyone’s favorite summer holiday) just around the corner, we thought we’d take a look at some other fun holidays celebrated around the world. Here are a few of our favorites!
Night of the Radishes: Oaxaca, Mexico, celebrates this holiday every year on December 23rd with a radish carving contest. These carvings typically show a historical scene or the birth of Jesus, which makes for a fun pre-Christmas tradition.
Wave All Your Fingers at Your Neighbor Day: This holiday is actually celebrated in the United States on February 7th, though it’s not too widely popular, which is a shame. This holiday is pretty self-explanatory. Wave to your neighbor (with all your fingers) to say hello and spread good vibes.
Punch Your Neighbor Festival: On a slightly different note, this holiday is celebrated in the Bolivian village Tinku. The tradition comes from the earth Goddess named Pachamama, who asked for blood to provide good crops.
Beer Day: Another self-explanatory name, this holiday is celebrated in Iceland on March 1st with the whole country celebrating by drinking at their local pubs.
Monkey Buffett Day: This holiday is celebrated in Lopburi in Thailand. Monkeys in the area are known for bothering people for their food, so each year on the last weekend in November, villagers leave a buffet, which includes everything from peanuts and crab to soda pop, for the monkeys to enjoy.
Regardless of how (or what) you are celebrating this summer, you’ll want to be sure to capture photos of all the excitement. Visit our website for a wooden engraved frame to remember all your summer fun and see all our options for picture frames, unique gifts, and souvenirs.
